In Summer 2014 Ed set off to climb the technically challenging high altitude peak Khan Tengri solo at aged 22. Facing horrendous conditions and a number of physical and mental challenges he successfully became the first Briton to solo the adjacent Peak Chapayev (6095m) and the youngest Briton to even attempt to solo a 7000m peak ever. This is his story.

In July/August 2014 I set off on undoubtedly the most difficult challenge that I have faced so far in my career. The goal was to climb solo the technically difficult high altitude peak, Khan Tengri (7010m), the culmination of years of big mountain expeditions. I chose Khan Tengri for my record-breaking attempt to become the youngest Briton to solo a 7000m+ peak, aged 22, not because It would be easy but because it’s hard. I know it’s slightly cliché to say but nothing worth having comes easily. This has always been my approach.
